A 105-year-old male patient from Maasin town in Iloilo province is among the new coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) fatalities in Western Visayas.
The Department of Health (DOH-6) reported two additional deaths on Tuesday, Sept. 1, bringing the region’s death toll to 78.
Based on COVID-19 Regional Case Bulletin No. 158, the other patient who succumbed to the disease is a 70-year-old female from Bacolod City.
The deceased patient from Iloilo is considered as the oldest COVID-19 fatality in Western Visayas.
In an interview with Maasin Mayor Francis Amboy, he said the patient died on Aug. 26 while being treated at the West Visayas State University (WVSU) Medical Center.
The patient underwent swab testing after he manifested symptoms of COVID-19. The result of his test came out only on Aug. 29.
Amboy said the elderly could have acquired the virus in the hospital.
“Ginpaidalum na sa swab testing ang pamilya, ang taga punerarya nga nag-asikaso sang iya bangkay kag tanan nga may exposure sa iya. Nakahome quarantine sila subong,” he said.IMT
