The eleven Ilonggo seafarers aboard a livestock ship that capsized in the East China Sea during a typhoon last week are still missing.

Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA 6) Director Rizza Joy Moldes said that nine of the missing seafarers are from Iloilo province while two are from Iloilo City.

Those from the province are residents of the towns of Oton, Sta. Barbara, Guimbal, and Tubungan.

The 11 are among the 43 crew members (39 of whom are Filipinos) of Gulf Livestock 1 carrying nearly 6,000 cows from New Zealand.

The ill-fated ship, owned by UAE-based Gulf Navigation, was on its way to the Chinese port of Tangshan when it was hit by a massive wave on Sept. 2.

According to Chief Officer Sareno Edvarodo, one of the survivors, the ship lost control as it traversed choppy seas.

Meanwhile, the OWWA-6 director said they already got in touch with all the families of the missing seafarers.

Moldes assured that the families will receive financial assistance from the agency.

Search and rescue operations for the missing crew remained suspended due to bad weather.IMT
