A total of 11 teams from different towns in Northern Iloilo will try to eke out each other as they compete in the Boboy-Binky District Cup also known as “BiBo Cup” which kicked off at the Civic Center of San Dionisio, Iloilo over the weekend.

Led by Iloilo Fifth District Congressman Raul “Boboy” Tupas, Board Member Binky Tupas and leaders from the towns of Barotac Viejo, San Rafael, Ajuy, Sara, Concepcion, Lemery, San Dionisio, Batad, Balasan, Estancia, and Carles, more than 1,000 spectators joined the opening ceremony.

All teams will compete in volleyball and basketball games which will run until December 2022. There are two age categories for both volleyball and basketball – 21 years old under and 14 years old under.

For ILECO III General Manager and sportsman Atty. James Balsomo II, he is looking forward to a more exciting and even more competitive games this time, given the build up excitement among the young players after an almost 3-year break from sports engagements.

“Seeing more young people with great potentials participating this time not to mention every team from 11 towns appear to be well prepared for the 2022 Boboy-Binky District Cup,” he added.

Balsomo, who also gave his message during the opening ceremony, said young players should pray and always acknowledge that all that we are and everything that we have come from our Almighty Father.

“You need to play your game well and focus on excellence instead of winning. Enjoy your game and a few years from now, you will never remember much whether you won or lose in the game but you will always cherish the fun, the excitement and the experience you have in your game,” narrated Balsomo.

Meanwhile, Estancia Vice Mayor Mark Cordero said the event initiated by the Tupas couple will expose athletes in various sports. “It will develop their sportsmanship and camaraderie, especially that all towns are participating. The event will also serve as family bonding as all games are being played every weekend,” he added.

Board Member Tupas also stressed that they came up with the BiBo name as it defined their kind of leadership in the Fifth District.

“BIBO is a Tagalog and millennial slang which means alert, active mind, bright and sharp. In the Fifth District, it means Binky and Boboy bringing a BiBo kind of leadership,” she disclosed.IMT Sports
