Thirteen job hire employees of Iloilo City Hall have tested positive for illegal drug use, according to Mayor Jerry Treñas.

Of the number, majority or 11 were found using methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu and two were using marijuana.

The mayor said those who flunked the random drug testing were dismissed from their jobs and their names were submitted to the Philippine National Police (PNP).

As of Feb. 20, more than 20 thousand job hire and contract of service employees have submitted themselves to drug testing.

The testing is stipulated in Executive Order (EO) No. 05-2023 issued by Treñas early this month to “keep the city government drug-free.”

The mayor directed the Uswag Molecular Laboratory to undertake the testing.

“Iloilo City has various programs and activities designed to eliminate the illegal drug problem… not only within the city hall premises but including its field departments and offices and its 180 barangays,” read part of the EO.IMT
