Fourteen towns in the province of Iloilo have been identified as hotspots for the May 9, 2022 national and local elections, according to the PNP’s provincial office.
Calinog is under category red, which means there is presence of political rivalry, threats of armed groups, and history of election-related violence in the town.
Bingawan, Lambunao, Maasin, Janiuay, Alimodian, Miagao, Sara, Tubungan, Leon, Lemery, San Dionisio, Igbaras and San Joaquin are under category orange.
Orange areas refer to those where there are serious armed threats by some groups.
There is currently no area in the province that is under category yellow.
Colonel Adrian Acollador, Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO) director, said they closely monitoring the 14 towns.
Meanwhile, the IPPO has so far arrested 16 individuals for violating the election gun ban.IMT
