A total of 160 new classrooms will be constructed in the province of Iloilo this year, according to the Schools Division Office (SDO).
Dr. Ernesto F. Servillon Jr., SDO-Iloilo superintendent, said the construction of the classrooms, amounting to P1.041 billion, is funded by the national government.
The province, composed of 42 towns and one component city, is facing a shortage of classrooms for public school students.
Servillon said Iloilo needs 1,654 new classrooms to completely address the shortage.
The Fifth District has a backlog of 449 classrooms, the highest in the province.
The Third District came in second with 385 classroom backlog, followed by the First District (302), Second District (297), and Fourth District (219).IMT
