The highlight of Iloilo City’s Dinagyang Festival this year attracted thousands of people.
The Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) estimated around 100,000 people who attended the Tribes Competition on Sunday, Jan. 28.
The competition, held in four judging areas, was participated in by eight school-based tribes from the city’s seven districts.
The Kasadyahan sa Kabanwahanan on Saturday, Jan. 27 drew 60,000 people while the Dinagyang ILOmination and Floats Parade of Lights on Friday, Jan. 26, attracted 100,000 people.
All in all, the number of Dinagyang revelers reached more than half a million from the opening salvo of the festival on Jan. 12 to Jan. 28.
According to City Mayor Jerry Treñas, Dinagyang gets “better and better” every year.
“Dinagyang has indeed come a long way. It gets better and better every year, with more and more people coming to Iloilo City just to witness this grand festivity,” he said.
“This fusion of culture and faith is something we Ilonggos should be very proud of. We have elevated the celebration every year, and we never fail to amaze everyone with how we run the festival,” Treñas added.IMT
