Three men were arrested for picking sunflowers in Iloilo City Sunday morning, Nov. 24.
RJ Villegas and Alexes Nejana, both residents of Barangay Bolilao in Mandurriao district, and Daniel Soropia of Barangay Divinagracia in La Paz district were spotted picking sunflowers planted along Diversion Road.
Villegas, 28, and Nejana, 24, were caught in the act by the city government’s “green guards” at around 2 a.m. and at around 3:19 a.m., respectively.
The two said they picked the flowers for their girlfriends.
Soropia, on the other hand, were caught picking the flowers at around 4:30 a.m., but he denied doing so.
The three have been detained at the Mandurriao Police Station. They may also face malicious mischief charges.
Earlier this month, the city government hired 30 “green guards” primarily to protect ornamental plants.IMT
