A three-year-old girl in the town of Pandan, Antique has tested positive for the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

The child’s positive test result was released on Tuesday, May 5, and was announced by the Department of Health (DOH-6) on the same day.

Tagged as “Patient 74”, the girl is now the youngest COVID-19 patient in Western Visayas.

Dr. May Ann Soliva-Sta. Lucia, DOH-6 spokesperson, said they are still investigating how the child got infected with the virus.

The child, who is currently admitted at a hospital, had no exposure to known COVID-19 patients in the province, according to Lucia.

The Antique Provincial Health Office, as of posting, has yet issue further details of the corovirus-positive child.

The province currently has 14 COVID-19 cases, including four recoveries. 

The infected child is among the eight new cases of the disease in the region. The seven others are as follows:
◾55-year-old female from Arevalo, Iloilo City
◾30-year-old-female from Banga, Aklan
◾33-year-old male from Dingle, Iloilo province
◾30-year-old male from City Proper, Iloilo City
◾43-year-old female from Arevalo, Iloilo City
◾54-year-old female from Arevalo, Iloilo City
◾49-year-old female from Arevalo, Iloilo City

Those from Aklan, Iloilo province, and City Proper are repatriated overseas workers.

The number of infected repatriates in the region is now at 13.

All the patients from Arevalo district and Aklan are isolated at quarantine facilities while the rest are admitted at hospitals.

The eight new cases bring the total count in the region to 80, including 31 recoveries and 10 deaths.IMT
