Eighty schools in Western Visayas are ready for the implementation of the expanded phase of the face-to-face classes, according to the Department of Education (DepEd-6).

These schools, according to DepEd-6 Regional Director Ramir Uytico, will hold limited in-person classes once the region reverts to Alert level 2.

Currently, the entire region is under Alert Level 3, wherein face-to-face classes are prohibited in kinder, elementary and high school.

Uytico said the names of the 80 schools were already forwarded to the DepEd Central Office in Manila.

“Maglower na ‘yung alert level sa Region VI, siguro bibigyan tayo ng go signal sa Central Office magkaroon tayo ng expansion sa Region VI,” he told reporters.

Of the 80 schools, 16 are from Negros Occidental, 15 from Silay City, 11 from Sagay City, 9 from Antique, 8 from San Carlos City, 4 each from Aklan and Cadiz City, 3 each from Escalante City and Iloilo province, 2 each from Himamaylan City, and Passi City, and 1 each from Guimaras, Roxas City, and Victorias City.

The expansion of in-person classes, subject to the safety measures to be set by the Department of Health, and the concurrence of local governments and parents, was approved President Rodrigo Duterte last Jan. 18.

“The president has no objection to that and after the presentation of DepEd Sec. Briones, then they can continue their classes. Again, it will be the DepEd and the DOH combined who will be assessing the expansion or pilot implementation ng face-to-face classes,” said acting presidential spokesperson Karlo Nograles.IMT
