Eighty-four families were left homeless after a fire erupted in two neighboring villages in Iloilo City early Monday morning, June 17.

Of the affected families, 60 were from Barangay Tanza Bonifacio and 24 from Barangay Rizal Estanzuela.

The fire victims, according to the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), are temporarily sheltered at Rizal Elementary School.

Based on data from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP-Iloilo City), 32 houses were totally burned and 12  were partially destroyed.

One person was reported injured but no fatalities were recorded in the incident.

The fire, which broke out at 2:15 a.m. in Barangay Barangay Tanza Bonifacio, was declared under control at 3:59 a.m. and was fully extinguished at 4:37 a.m.

Fire Superintendent Melanie Habawel, city fire marshal, said that a lighted candle left unattended may have caused the fire.

The cost of damage was pegged at  P677,000.IMT
