Nine mayoral and 13 vice mayoral candidates in the province of Iloilo are considered sure winners in the 2025 midterm elections.
The candidates who do not have opponents in the race for mayoral posts are Ian Kenneth Alfeche of Alimodian, Suzette Abunto Mamon of Badiangan, Vicente Jaen II of Leganes, and Oscar Jr. Villegas Carbon of Lemery.
Francisco Amboy of Maasin, Carl Vincent Mondejar of New Lucena, Sofronio Fusin Jr. of Oton, Laurence Anthony Gorriceta of Pavia, and Dennis Superficial of Santa Barbara are also running unopposed.
In the vice mayoral race, those who do not have rivals are Gefree Alonsabe of Alimodian, Lyka Joy Debuque of Anilao, Cylas Jun Nobleza of Badiangan, Patrick Anthony Cabales Tobias of Cabatuan, and Ronaldo Bayot Golez of Dumangas.
Christine Serag Garin of Guimbal, Sherwin Paul Quidato of Igbaras, Arvin Losaria of Lambunao, Lyle Bartolome of Leganes, Vicente Albacete of Maasin, Edsel Gerochi of Pavia, Lugen Ortilano of Tigbauan, and Leo Cezar Taypen of Tubungan are also unopposed bets.
In the congressional race, only Kathryn Joyce Gorriceta, wife of incumbent Second District Rep. Mike Gorriceta, is running unopposed.
Rolito Cajilig and June Mondejar of the Second District are also assured of seats in the Sangguniang Panlalawigan.
According to the Commission on Elections (COMELEC), unopposed candidates need only at least one vote to win.
The poll body officially closed on Tuesday, Oct. 8, the period of filing of certificates of candidacy for next year’s elections.IMT
