Acute gastroenteritis cases in Iloilo City exceed 500 mark

Cases of acute gastroenteritis (AGE) in Iloilo City have already exceeded the 500 mark.

The City Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (CESU) recorded 522 AGE cases and 12 cholera cases as of Sept. 11.

Of the AGE cases, majority or 456 have recovered, 35 are still admitted in hospitals, 20 undergo treatment at their homes, and 10 have died.

The number of barangays affected by the food-and water-borne diseases increased to 105. The city is comprised of 180 villages.

City Health Office (CHO) officer-in-charge Dr. Annabelle Tang said measures have been carried out to avert the rising cases.

The entire city is currently under a state of calamity due to the outbreak of AGE and cholera.

Tang said the city government will procure cholera vaccine using a portion of the quick response fund.

According to her, the city government will prioritize the vaccination of those in the affected barangays.IMT
