President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has approved an increase in the subsistence allowance for the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).

Under Executive Order (EO) 84, signed on March 14, the allowance will rise from P150 to P350, effective January 1, 2025.

The order states that the increase is necessary to support the welfare of AFP officers and enlisted personnel, recognizing their sacrifices in defending the nation’s sovereignty. It also notes that the current allowance is insufficient to meet the daily needs of active-duty soldiers.

The last adjustment to the subsistence allowance was made in 2015, under Congress Joint Resolution No. 5.

The increase will also apply to trainees, probationary second lieutenants, ensigns, Citizen Military Training cadets, and reservists.

Funding for the increase will come from the AFP’s appropriations under the 2025 General Appropriations Act, as well as other sources identified by the Department of Budget and Management.

The order will take effect upon publication in the Official Gazette or a major newspaper.IMT
