One person died and two were missing in the town of Sara, Iloilo due to the onslaught of Tropical Tropical Depression Agaton.
The fatality was identified as Florentino Dimaala, 62, of barangay Ardemil. He was a village official.
According Edwin Aguenido, head of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), the victim died after drowning in the flood caused by heavy rains.
Meanwhile, the missing persons are residents of Barangays Apologista and Tady.
“Nagconduct kita retrieval operations pero ang result negative bangus sa [strong] current sang tubig,” Aguenido told IMT NEWS.
Based on records from the MDRRMO, 5,726 families or 10,608 individuals were affected by floods as of Tuesday, April 12.
At least 134 houses were severely damaged or totally submerged while 3,842 were partially damaged or submerged.
“Initially, nahatagan naton sila food packs. May ara kita panghatag naman from DSWD (Department of Social Welfare and Development) and NGOs (non-governemnt oraganizations) nga magabulig sa aton,” said Aguenido.
“May mga water dispensers man kita nga ginabutang sa atong mga evacuation centers,” he added.
The town was declared under state of calamity on due to the effects of massive flooding.IMT
