The Iloilo Provincial Agriculture Office (PAO) is discouraging backyard slaughtering.
Animals such as hog, carabao, and cow should be inspected first before they will be slaughtered, according to PAO chief Dr. Lani Bautista in a report by state-run Philippine News Agency.
She urged especially meat vendors and backyard animal raisers to avail of slaughterhouse services.
Animals brought to authorized slaughterhouses underwent “proper inspection of veterinarians.”
“The inspection is important to know if the animals are healthy and of good quality,” Bautista said.
According to her, some of the people choose to butch their animals in their own backyards to avoid paying fees imposed by slaughterhouses.
Bautista admitted that there are towns in the province that have no facilities.
She said they have meat inspectors deployed in different public markets to seize meat products that are not safe for consumption.IMT
