Repairs should not disrupt airport operations and inconvenience travelers, according to Senator Grace Poe.
“An aircon-less terminal is not the warm welcome that travelers look forward when they use our airports or when they come to the Philippines,” Poe said in a press statement.
The senator issued the comment following the 12-hour shutdown of the centralized cooling system at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 for 12 hours on July 16.
“It’s unfortunate passengers have to endure anew the intolerable heat at NAIA purportedly due to the needed replacement of the cooling tower,” she said.
Poe expressed hope that the consortium tasked with rehabilitating the NAIA airport will bring a permanent solution to its poor state and provide Filipinos with a world-class airport.
Last Monday, July 15, Senator Raffy Tulfo filed a resolution urging his colleagues to investigate the problems besetting the country’s airports.
Long passenger lines and malfunctioning electronic gates at the NAIA are causing some travelers to miss their flights, according to him.
“Passengers are the ones carrying the burden of the inconvenience, as they had to spend extra money to re-book their tickets and stay extra hours at the airports lobby, even when they are not the ones at fault,” said Tulfo.IMT
