Senator Loren Legarda has secured funding to complete the redevelopment of Antique airport in San Jose de Buenavista.
With the latest P125 million allocation under the 2025 General Appropriations Act (GAA), the airport’s terminal and runway expansion to 1,800 meters will soon be completed. This will allow Antique Airport to accommodate larger aircraft, including Airbus models.
“In less than a decade, with the support of my brother (Congressman Antonio Agapito “AA” Legarda) and through the initiatives we have tirelessly pursued, the province will soon witness the full operations of Antique Airport. No longer just a quiet province on the sidelines, Antique is emerging as a vital gateway for commerce, tourism, and development,” said Legarda.
The transformation of Antique Airport has been a gradual process. In 2016, its runway spanned 1,200 meters. By 2018, it was extended to 1,400 meters, enabling 80-seater propeller aircraft to land. Further expansion in 2023 stretched it to 1,700 meters. Now, with the latest funding, the runway will reach 1,800 meters, allowing even larger aircraft to operate.
During a recent inspection, Legarda emphasized the need for durable infrastructure. She tasked the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) with creating a master plan for airport drainage to prevent flooding and ensure sustainability.
“Ensuring the proper development of Antique Airport is crucial in strengthening our province’s connectivity and economic potential. Every peso allocated must translate into real progress for the people of Antique,” she stated.
With funding secured and infrastructure nearing completion, Antique airport is on track to becoming a fully modern gateway, benefiting both residents and visitors.IMT
