Strict implementation of traffic laws is being adopted in the province of Antique as part of upholding public road safety measures.
Antique Police Provincial Office (APPO) Deputy Provincial Director for Operation PLt. Col. Norby Escobar reported a total of 1,041 apprehended persons relating to traffic law violations for the period February 5 -12 of this year.
“Our aim is to minimize traffic accidents, if not totally zero, as these cause deaths, injuries, and damage to properties,” Escobar emphasized.
Of the figure, there were 515 individuals held due to non-compliance with the Motorcycle Helmet Act of 2019 or Republic Act 10054.
The cops also nabbed 521 persons after violating the Land Transportation and Traffic Code.
Meanwhile, there were five persons who have been apprehended for failing to act in accordance with the Children’s Safety on Motorcycle Act of 2015.
Under the law, it forbids any individual to drive a motorcycle with a child on board on public roads where there is bulk of vehicles.
However, the law states that “a child may be allowed to board a motorcycle on public roads if he/she can comfortably reach his/her feet on the standard foot peg of the motorcycle; the child’s arms can reach around and grasp the waist of the motorcycle rider; and the child is wearing a standard protective helmet.”
Escobar said, “If there is a continuing campaign, maybe you would notice that in the future, you would barely see riders who are not wearing helmets, or children whose feet cannot reach the motor’s foot rest.”
Municipal police stations in the province were likewise directed to print tarpaulins bearing Land Transportation Office (LTO) violations and corresponding penalties and post them along highways of their respective areas of responsibility.PIA-6
