Iloilo City Representative Jamjam Baronda slapped City Councilor Plaridel Nava with multiple counts of cyberlibel.
The charges were filed by Baronda before the Prosecutor’s Office in Quezon City.
Nava said he paid on Oct. 20 a bail amounting to more half a million pesos after the Quezon City Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 90 issued a warrant of arrest against him.
“I was not arrested nor detained. I voluntarily surrendered to the jurisdiction of the court and immediately posted bail in the sum of P576,000.00. The court approved my bail and recalled the warrant this afternoon,” he said in a Facebook post.
“Obviously, Baronda filed these cases in Quezon City not for justice sake but to make my life difficult. Little did she know that I love traveling,” he added.
According to Nava, Baronda filed 65 counts of cyberlibel, of which only 12 counts were elevated to the RTC.
He also disclosed that the investigating prosecutor “dismissed the 15 counts of grave threat for insufficiency of evidence.”
“In court, she has the burden to prove that these are all false and malicious without forgetting that truth is a valid and acceptable defense in libel,” he said
“I love the excitement and the challenges. And I cannot wait to see Baronda in the witness stand talking in english. Let’s get it on!” the councilor added.IMT
