Incumbent Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas has expressed his intention to run for congressman in next year’s midterm elections.
In a press conference on Tuesday, April 16, Treñas said there is no final decision yet for his plan for the 2025 polls.
“Depende pa na, basi ako man madalagan congressman,” the second-termer mayor told reporters.
Last month, Treñas announced that his daughter, Raisa Treñas-Chu, will be his official candidate for the city’s lone congressional seat.
Treñas-Chu serves as one of the mayor’s executive assistants and was the second nominee of Uswag Ilonggo in the 2022 party-list elections.
She earned a bachelor’s degree in Political Economy from Assumption College in San Lorenzo Village, Makati City, and a master’s degree from Ateneo de Manila University in Manila.
According to Treñas, he met with incumbent City Lone District Representative Julienne “Jamjam” Baronda and she agreed not to run for a third and final term next year.
But, the mayor said: “In politics, you can always make another decision.”
Baronda has yet to share her next move for the 2025 elections.IMT
