The town of Barotac Nuevo in Iloilo province  recorded two new dengue-related deaths, bringing its total fatalities to three.

According to the Provincial Health Office (PHO), the latest fatalities were children aged seven and three. They died this month.

Barotac Nuevo, as of Aug. 20, has the highest number of deaths related to the mosquito-borne disease.

Miagao and Badiangan came in second with two dengue deaths each and followed by Lambunao, Dingle, Passi City, Igbaras and Banate with one death each.

Last week, the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) passed a resolution recommending the declaration of a state of calamity in the province due to the rising cases of dengue.

From January 1 to August 10 this year, PHO recorded 4,595 dengue cases.IMT
