The Bureau of Immigration (BI) reaffirmed its commitment to boosting tourism, in line with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s vision of strengthening the economy through increased foreign arrivals and global connectivity.
BI data shows 14.7 million international arrivals in 2024, nearing the pre-pandemic figure of 17 million in 2019.
Commissioner Joel Viado called it a steady recovery despite global challenges.
South Korea remained the top source of visitors (1.76 million), followed by the United States (1.32 million) and China (500,000). Other key markets included Japan, Australia, Canada, Taiwan, the United Kingdom, India, and Singapore.
Viado emphasized the Bureau’s role in streamlining immigration processes to sustain tourism growth.
“The return of international arrivals to near pre-pandemic levels is a testament to the Philippines’ appeal as a top destination,” according to him.
“The BI remains committed to streamlining and modernizing our entry procedures to support this momentum while upholding border security,” he added.IMT
