The Bureau of Immigration is ready for the resumption of international flights at the Iloilo International Airport in Cabatuan this October.
In a public forum, Iloilo District Office acting alien control officer Joann M. Lagamon said coordination meetings with other concerned agencies were ongoing and dry runs have been conducted as part of the preparations.
“Our office, the Bureau of Immigration – Iloilo International Airport, did not close even during the pandemic. Our officers are ready in case of diverted international flights that will land in Iloilo. For now, they are ready to cater (to) flights coming in and out of Iloilo International Airport,” Lagamon said during the Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas.
Cebu Pacific announced in July the resumption of flights between Iloilo and Hong Kong, and Singapore starting Oct. 27 after it was suspended due to the pandemic.
With the development, Lagamon assured that immigration officers would be ready to assist international travelers, especially first-time travelers.
She, however, said that the Iloilo International Airport does not have electronic gates (e-gates) yet, which, so far, are only available at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.
“Hopefully, we can have that here in the near future,” she said.Perla Lena PNA
