The “biggest” sports complex in Panay Island will rise in the town of Sara, Iloilo.

The construction of the P350-million Tingog Asenso Quinto Sports Complex is set to start this month.

Specifically, the state-of-the-art sports complex will be constructed inside Northern Iloilo State University (NISU) – Victorino Salcedo Campus in Barangay Anoring.

Equipped with a basketball court, track oval, football court, lawn tennis court, volleyball court, and Olympic-size swimming pool, the sports complex is designed to accommodate more or less 3,000 people.

The second phase of its construction will integrate additional facilities such as a dormitory, recreational area, canteen, and multi-purpose building within the complex to further enhance sports development in the area.

According to Iloilo Fifth District Representative Raul “Boboy” Tupas, the project — which has an initial funding of P100 million — is expected to be finished two to three years from now.

The groundbreaking ceremony on April 27 was led by Tingog Party List Representative Yedda Romualdez, together with Tupas, Board Member Binky Tupas and NISU President Dr. Bobby Gerardo.

In a media interview, Tupas said the sports complex, once completed, will serve as a venue for grassroots training of athletes in the Fifth District.

“Our longstanding aspiration for a sports complex in northern Iloilo is finally being realized with a humble groundbreaking ceremony,” he told reporters.

Meanwhile, Romualdez lauded the leadership of Rep. Tupas and his wife, Binky, in the implementation of projects in their district.

“Napakaganda po ng project na ito baka in 2 or 3 years pwede na tayo mag host ng palarong pambansa. Magpasalamat kayo kay Cong Tupas and Board Binky dahil hindi nila pinapapabayaan ang Fifth District. You are lucky to have them both,” she said.IMT
