Iloilo Fifth District Representative Raul “Boboy” Tupas admitted that he was “saddened” and “insulted” by his two brothers’ move to endorse his opponent at their ancestral house in Barotac Viejo.

“Masubo nga pagpakanubo kag insulto sa amon malipayon nga nakaligad. Didto pa gid dal-on sa inyo mismo balay nga gindak-an,” Tupas said in a radio interview.

Last week, former congressman Niel “Junjun” Tupas,  Jr. raised the hands of Boboy’s opponent in the vice gubernatorial race. He was joined by former mayor Niel “Beng” Tupas III and their cousin, Rolex Suplico.

“Wala man problema kon bayawon niya (Junjun) [ang kamot] sang kasumpong ko. Pero ang iya ginhimo sa amon ancestral house. Pito kami ka mag-utod. Ti duha man lang to sila ang nagbayaw,” he said.

“Siguro kon ara lang si tatay (former governor Niel Tupas, Sr.) indi gid ni matabo,” he added.

But despite this, Boboy said he has no ill-feelings towards his brothers and cousin and he respects their choice.

The incumbent congressman remains hopeful for a possible reconciliation with Junjun, the eldest among the Tupas siblings.

Junjun was defeated by Boboy in the 2019 and 2022 elections for the congressional post.IMT
