Vice gubernatorial candidate Raul “Boboy” Tupas said he “respects” his elder brother’s decision to support his opponent in the 2025 midterm elections.
In a radio interview, the incumbent congressman of Iloilo’s Fifth District admitted that he was saddened by Atty. Neil “Junjun” Tupas Jr.’s withdrawal of support for him.
But he said he understands why Junjun, who initially backed his candidacy for the second-highest post in the province, changed his mind.
Despite the shift of support, Boboy remains confident in his chances, saying that it is still up to Ilonggo voters to decide.
The rift between Boboy and Junjun started in 2015 when the former ran against the latter’s wife, Yvonne Angeli, for the congressional seat.
In 2019 and 2022, Junjun challenged Boboy in the congressional race, but he lost.
Boboy said he has made several attempts to reach out to Junjun, but the latter’s doors for reconciliation seemed closed.IMT
