Boracay Island made it to this year’s list of “Top Islands in Asia” by Condé Nast Traveler’s (CNT) Readers’ Choice Awards.
The island in Malay, Aklan ranked third with 91.07 points, according to the results of an online survey conducted by the foreign travel magazine.
More than 600,000 readers of CNT registered and participated in the poll.
The islands of Palawan (6th) and Siargao (10th) were also included in the list.
In a statement, Department of Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia-Frasco hailed the inclusion of the three islands.
“This achievement reflects the hard work, dedication and sustainable tourism efforts of our country, from our local communities, national and local government agencies and stakeholders who have strived tirelessly to preserve and enhance the beauty of these islands,” she said.
“From the charm of our islands, pristine beaches, crystal clear waters, vibrant marine life, lush landscapes, rich heritage and culture, and the excellent hospitality of the Filipino people, the Philippine experience is always one that is filled with love and happy travels,” Frasco added.
Bali in Indonesia got the top spot this year and Koh Samui in Thailand placed second. Phuket in Thailand ranked fourth, followed by Langkawi in Malaysia (5th), Sri Lanka (7th), Phu Quoc in Vietnam (8th) and Okinawa and Ryukyu Islands in Japan (9th).
