More than one million tourists visited Boracay Island in Malay, Aklan in the first half of 2024, according to the Department of Tourism (DOT-6).
The world-famous island accommodated 1, 109, 000 tourists from January to June this year, of which 232, 000 were international visitors and 877, 000 were local tourists.
Phoebe Zelie Areño, DOT-6 assistant regional director, said majority of the foreign tourists were South Koreans.
Americans came in second, followed by Chinese and Australians.
Meanwhile, the National Capital Region (NCR) emerged as Boracay’s top source of local tourists, followed by Western Visayas and CALABARZON.
Boracay, known for its powdery white sand and crystal clear waters, is aiming to attract 2.3 million tourists this year.IMT
