The Italian-flagged cruise ship MS AIDAstella arrived in the world-famous Boracay Island in Malay, Aklan on Monday, Jan. 13.
The international cruise ship, operated by AIDA Cruises, was carrying 3,120 passengers and crew members.
Of the passengers, who were mostly Europeans, 2,019 took part in a day tour and experienced the beauty of Boracay’s pristine white beaches.
“For nine unforgettable hours (10 a.m. to 7 p.m.), they embraced the island’s charm, exploring its pristine white-sand beaches, swimming in its turquoise waters, and immersing themselves in its vibrant culture – all despite the gentle blessing of rain that added a touch of magic to their adventure,” the Department of Tourism (DOT-6) said in a statement.
MS AIDAstella is the first international cruise ship to visit the island this year.
A formal plaque exchange ceremony was held inside the ship among DOT-6 and Malay local government officials and MS AIDAStella’s captain.
This year, at least 17 cruise ships are expected to visit Boracay.IMT
