The local government of Calinog, Iloilo assured that Korean workers in the ongoing construction of the Jalaur River Multipurpose Project (JRMP) II are properly monitored as part of precautionary measures against the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

In a press conference held in Iloilo City on Wednesday, March 11, Mayor Francisco Calvo said the Daewoo Engineering and Construction Co. Ltd, the contractor for the P11.2 billion project has more or less 100 Korean workers.

Last week he requested their municipal health officer to check workers of the Daewoo and none were found manifesting signs and symptoms of the Covid-19, he said.

“The provincial health office also visited them for checking,” he added.

Recently, four Korean nationals arrived from South Korea and they were properly monitored, he said.

Other Korean workers have been there for years, he added.

The municipality has created the Calinog Task Force with 40 members to look into the enforcement of measures against Covid-19.

Some members of the task force, including local Philippine National Police (PNP) personnel, have been assigned at the Daewoo compound to do the monitoring.

“Arrivals are immediately reported and medical personnel are advised to check on them,” he added.

Meanwhile, he said the 59 barangays of the town have been advised to operationalize their barangay health emergency response teams (BHERTs).

He also assured residents of Calinog that newly-arrived persons who came from places with positive Covid cases are properly monitored.

Calvo said he will also be calling for an emergency meeting with the barangay captains and school officials of Calinog following the Executive Order of Governor Arthur Defensor on the cancellation of the holding of public events with a large number of attendees for 45 days. The order took effect on March 10. Perla Lena/PNA
