Former President Rodrigo Duterte threatened to sue Police Maj. Gen. Nicolas Torre III after his retirement, the CIDG chief revealed Thursday, March 13.
Speaking at a Presidential Communications Office (PCO) panel hosted by Undersecretary Claire Castro, Torre said Duterte made the threat while being taken into custody on March 11 after Interpol served his arrest warrant.
“Mismong si (dating) Presidente Duterte ay ni-remind na ako, magre-retire ako, at aasuntuhin ako ng kanyang mga anak at ng kanyang mga kamag-anak. Tine-threaten niya ako,” he said.
Torre also reported that members of the Duterte family physically and verbally attacked the arresting officers.
“Itinulak ako ni Honeylet (Avancena). Tinabig niya ako at malakas ang pagkatabig niya noong nagkasalubong kami sa hallway. Nasa video naman na minura ako ng kanyang anak (Kitty),” according to him,
PNP Spokesperson Brig. Gen. Jean Fajardo added that Avanceña hit a female officer on the head with a mobile phone, causing a large bump that required hospital treatment. Despite the hostility, Fajardo said the officers remained professional.
“But for as long as they are members of the PNP, ay mayroon po tayong mga dapat pong i-observe na mga protocol with respect sa airing po ng ating mga personal sentiments,” she said.
Despite the incident, she assured that police morale remains high.IMT
