This year’s edition of CineKasimanwa will showcase seven films done by Western Visayas’ emerging directors.

These films of different genres received grants worth P100,000 each from the Department of Tourism (DOT-6).

The tourism department’s Western Visayas Film Grants Program has been part of the film festival since 2015.

The seven films, which will be shown in SM City Iloilo and Festive Walk Mall from Dec. 6 to 15, are:

-SUBLI by Kenneth De La Cruz (full-length/folkloric drama) shot in Iloilo and Guimaras

-DU-NGAN: THE SPIRIT WITHIN by Kyle Fermindoza (full-length/apocalyptic-action) shot in Antique and Iloilo

-ABEL’S REVOLUTION by Julius de la Peña (short/psychological drama) shot in Negros Occidental

-ANG DUYAN KO SA PANGANOD by Dennis Hubag (short/domestic drama) shot in Guimaras

-EXORCISMO by Carlo Navarrete (short/horror drama) shot in Silay City, Negros Occidental

-ANG TUMULUO by Aldrich Rosano (shor/thriller) shot in Cadiz City, Bacolod City, Negros Occidental

-AZUCAR by Kurt Soberano (mid-length/romance drama) shot in Negros Occidental

Trailers of the films were previewed during a press conference for the 7th CineKasimanwa: Western Visayas Film Festival last Nov. 4.

Elvert Bañares, festival director of CineKasimanwa, said the “seven lucky films” were selected through a highly rigid selection process.

According to him, the films featured a lot of tourist attractions in the region.

“Sa kada film, tatlo ang ginarequire sang DOT pero kon tan awon mo, more than three ang locations,” Bañares said.

The festival will also premiere more than 150 short films.

The 7th CineKasimanwa: Western Visayas Film Festival is presented by the Western Visayas Filmmakers Network and supported by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (Committee on Cinema) and the Film Development Council of the Philippines.

CineKasimanwa is considered as the biggest annual regional film festival in the country.IMT
