Barangay officials are allowed to participate in political and campaign activities, the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) confirmed.
COMELEC Chairman George Erwin Garcia clarified that they may do so only outside office hours.
“They can join rallies, go on stage, wear campaign shirts, or post on social media supporting a candidate,” Garcia said in Filipino.
“Campaigning is not prohibited, but it must be done after office hours. During work hours, they should not use government resources,” he added.
The campaign period for local candidates, including governors, congressmen, mayors, and municipal councilors, runs from March 28 to May 10.IMT
