The Commission on Election (COMELEC) is targeting to register between 17,000 to 23,000 new voters for the May 2022 elections.

COMELEC-Iloilo City assistant election officer Jonathan Sayno said the target is six to eight percent of the 294,776 total registered voters during the 2019 elections.

According to Sayno, the COMELEC-Iloilo City so far was able register more that 12,000 new voters since the start of voter’s registration in February last year.

The COMELEC en banc earlier approved the resumption of voters’ registration in areas under modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ).

Sayno said since Sept. 6, they were able to accommodate not less than 1, 000 new registrants per day.

He noted that as early 4 a.m, many interested registrants already queued at various satellite registration sites.

Sayno advised those who want to register to come to the registration site early so they will be included in the cut off and bring necessary documents with them like identification card and birth certificate.

He noted that registered Sangguniang Kabataan (SK)members who already voted during the 2018 barangay elections need not to register anymore as they are be automatically included in the list of regular voters.

Meanwhile, according to Iloilo City Compliance Officer Nestor Canong, the conduct of the registration was orderly, and systematic and minimum health protocols were strictly observed in the venue.IMT
