A group of consumers wants More Electric and Power Corporation (MORE Power), Iloilo City’s sole power distributor, to operate in the First District of Iloilo province.

In a resolution, Bantay ng Bayan – 101 Association, Inc. (BNB 101) urged Congresswoman Janette Garin and local government officials to facilitate the entry of MORE Power into the First District.

The First District, composed of the towns of Guimbal, Igbaras, Miagao, Oton, San Joaquin, Tigbauan and Tubungan, is currently served by Iloilo Electric Cooperative (ILECO I).

“The rate of MORE Power for the residential class and [its] generation charge have consistently been lower than [those of] ILECO I,” the resolution stated.

“We, the consumers of District 1 would like also to avail and have access to the better service and lower rates being offered by MORE Power to their consumers,” it further stated.

In July last year, the Supreme Court (SC) upheld the constitutionality of Republic Act 11918, which allows MORE Power to extend its franchise to 15 areas in the province’s Second and Fourth Districts.

These areas include Passi City and the towns of Anilao, Banate, Barotac Nuevo, Dingle, Dueñas, Dumangas, Leganes, Leon, New Lucena, Pavia, San Enrique, San Miguel, Santa Barbara, and Zarraga.

“The enactment of Republic Act No. 11918 is founded on the promotion of the common good, that is, to promote a healthy competitive environment in the Province of Iloilo,” the SC said in its 20-page decision.IMT
