Twenty-five of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients in Western Visayas are frontline medical workers, according to the Department of Health (DOH-6).
Of the number, 13 are doctors, 7 are nurses, 3 are midwives, 1 is a radiological technologist, and the other 1 is a medical technologist.
According Dr. Renilyn Reyes, DOH-6 spokesperson, 10 of the infected medical workers were able to recover.
The remaining active cases involved 9 doctors, 2 nurses, 1 medical technologist and 3 midwives.
Reyes appealed to the public to stop “shaming” and “discriminating” against medical workers.
“Panumdumon naton nga ang ila serbisyo tama gid kaimportante para sa COVID-19 kag non-COVID-19 patients sa different naton nga hospitals and health facilities,” she said.
The DOH-6 also recorded six cases involving non-medical frontliners.
“May ara kita isa ka ambulance driver, may isa ka kagawad on health, duha ka barangay health workers (BHWs), isa ka barangay nutrition scholar (BNS) kag isa ka barangay service point officer (BSPO),” Reyes said.
“Sa kibilugan, may ara kita tanan 31 frontliners nga nagpositive sa COVID-19,” she added.IMT
