The total number of people who tested positive for the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Western Visayas is now more than twenty thousand.
The Department of Health (DOH-6) reported 91 new cases in the region on Thursday, Dec. 3, bringing the total infection count to 20,056.
Negros Occidental accounted for the most number of the new cases at 24, followed by Aklan (23), Iloilo City (23), Iloilo province (13), Bacolod City (4), Guimaras (3), and Antique (1).
The DOH-6 also recorded 83 new recoveries and 8 new deaths, pushing the total number of recovered patients and the death toll to 17,575 and 562, respectively.
The region’s active cases currently stand at 1,828, of which majority or 80.90% are asymptomatic or have not manifested any of the symptoms of the infectious disease, 13.56% experience mild symptoms, 5% exhibit severe symptoms while 0.38% are for verification.
Of the total confirmed COVID-19 cases in the region, 5,829 were from Negros Occidental; 5,422 from Bacolod City; 4,368 from Iloilo City; 2,661 from Iloilo province; 1,086 from Capiz; 307 from Aklan; 214 from Guimaras; and 78 from Antique.IMT
