COVID-19 cases in WV exceed 500 with 91 new infections

The number of confirmed coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Western Visayas ballooned to 552 after the Department of Health (DOH-6) reported on Sunday, July 12, 91 new infections.

This is the new highest single-day spike in new cases, surpassing the previous record of 33 reported last June 29.

The latest bulletin issued the DOH-6 showed that of the 91 latest cases in the region, majority or 67 involved residents of the province of Iloilo.

Fifty-two of the province’s new COVID-19 patients are locally stranded individuals (LSIs), 13 are classified as patients infected through local transmission, and two are “authorized persons outside of residence (APOR).”

Broken down by town, Pavia registered the most number of new cases with 15, followed by Lambunao, 10; Cabatuan and San Enrique, 7 each; Duenas and Bingawan, 6 each; Zarraga, 5; New Lucena, 4; Barotac Nuevo and Leon, 2 each; and Oton and Concepcion, 1 each.

The local or indigenous cases are recorded in Bingawan (6), Zarraga (3), New Lucena (3), and Pavia (1).

The other additional coronavirus-positive patients in the region are from Negros Occidental (13), Bacolod City (8), Guimaras (2), and Iloilo City (1).

The new COVID-19 patient in Iloilo City is a 56-year-old female resident of Molo district. She is considered as an indigenous case.

The region’s health department recorded no new recoveries and deaths.
