The number of COVID-19 cases in Iloilo City went up by almost 90 percent this month, data from City Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (CESU) showed.

From March 1 to 21, CESU recorded 351 cases of COVID-19, higher by 88.89 percent compared to 195 infections registered in the same period last month.

Likewise, the average daily count rose to 17 from 9.

Barangay Bolilao in Mandurriao district accounted for the most number of cases this month at 48, followed by Magdalo with 28; South Fundidor, 15; San Isidro, 14; Tabuc Suba, 11; Sto. Nino Sur, 9; Calaparan and Mabolo Delgado, 8 each; Lopez Jaena Norte, Balabago, Buhang, Cubay Jaro and Quintin Salas, 7 each; Balantang, Oñate de leon, Q. Abeto, and Veterans, 6 each; and Lopez Jaena Sur, Bo. Obrero, Don Esteban, and MV Hechanova, 5 cases each.

Meanwhile, members of the city government’s COVID-19 Team will meet today, March 23, with representatives of different business process outsourcing (BPO) companies in the metropolis to discuss other possible measures to prevent infection in their respective workplaces.

According to Francis Cruz, Mayor Jerry Treñas’ executive assistant for information technology (IT), one of the plans is to conduct random and regular swab testing among BPO employees.
