The death toll due to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in the province and city of Iloilo is now at 44.
The Department of Health (DOH-6) reported three more COVID-19 fatalities in Western Visayas on Friday, Sept. 4, of which two are from Iloilo City and one from Iloilo province.
Dr. Jessie Glenn Alonsabe, DOH-6 spokesperson, said the new deaths involved a 60-year-old male from Arevalo district, a 22-year-old female from City Proper, and a 50-year-old female from the town of Estancia.
These brought the total death counts in the province and city to 17 and 27, respectively.
In the whole Western Visayas, Iloilo City has the highest death toll, followed by Bacolod City (26), Iloilo province, Negros Occidental (7), Capiz (6), and Aklan (1).
The provinces of Guimaras and Antique have no reported deaths.
The DOH-6 also logged 206 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the region, raising the total infection count to 5,346.
Of the new cases, 89 are from Bacolod City, 85 from Negros Occidental, 24 from Iloilo City, and 8 from Iloilo province.
