The Visayas region has recorded its first confirmed case of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
The 64 -year-old Filipino patient, who is currently confined at Siliman University Medical Center (SUMC) in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental, tested positive for the dreaded disease.
From ACE Dumaguete Doctors Hospital, the patient was transferred to SUMC early Tuesday morning, March 10.
According to SUMC, the patient had a travel history from Greenhills in San Juan City, Metro Manila. The mall is believed to be one of the COVID-19 hotspots in the coutry.
In a report by Cebu Daily News, Dr. Liland Estacion, Incident Command System Commander and Integrated Provincial Health Office chief, said “the patient is in critical condition and connected to a ventilator.”
The patient traveled to Manila on February 28 and went back to Dumaguete City on March 1. He started showing symptoms of COVID-19 on March 3.
On March 7, the patient went to ACE Dumaguete Doctors Hospital for consultation.
“The provincial leadership is appealing to those who came in contact with the patient to feel free to submit for a medical exam in case they manifested flu-like symptoms,” said Bimbo Miraflor, provincial public information officer.
As of March 11, the DOH recorded 49 confirmed cases of COVID-19. majority of them are Filipinos.IMT
