The Department of Agriculture (DA) is eyeing to sell mangoes from the island province of Guimaras to more countries, including New Zealand.
“Ang gusto natin talaga iyong mango natin we’ll be able to export it to other countries kasi napakaganda ng quality ng mango natin aside from all other commodities,” said DA Undersecretary for Operations Roger Navarro.
According to him, there is a growing demand for Philippine mangoes, particularly those from Guimaras, in Australia, the United States, and other countries.
Dubbed as the “Mango Capital of the Philippines,” Guimaras produces the “sweetest mangoes.” Based on its certificate of geographical indication (GI) registration, the sweetness of Guimaras mango “ranges from 16-degree Brix and higher.”
Navarro said they are coordinating with various government counterparts to secure more export agreements for mangoes and other agricultural products.IMT
