Governor Arthur Defensor Jr. sees no need to close the borders of Iloilo to travelers from Negros Occidental and Bacolod City.
Due to the continued increase in COVID-19 cases in Negros Occidental and Bacolod City, Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas considered banning non-essential travelers from these areas.
Based on the April 13 bulletin issued by the Department of Health (DOH-6), Negros Occidental accounted for the highest number of active COVID-19 cases in Western Visayas at 1,591.
Bacolod City came in second with 486 active cases.
Defensor said he talked to Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose “Bong” Lacson and he is confidents that the province will be able to contain the spread of the coronavirus.
Meanwhile, Lacson requested to upgrade the quarantine status of his province from modified general community quarantine (MGCQ) to GCQ but was turned down by National Inter-Agency Task force.IMT
