The Iloilo Provincial Government has implemented an additional measure to protect the province from the dreaded coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
Governor Arthur Defensor Jr. ordered the suspension of the holding of public events involving a large number of attendees.
Under Executive Order (EO) No. 028-B, the suspension takes effect starting on Tuesday, March 10, and will remain in force for a period of 45 days.
“As COVID-19 is a threat to national security, and likewise to that of the province of Iloilo, there is a need to impose additional control measures to prevent the transmission of the disease,” the EO stated.
Currently, there are no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the province.
The EO also cited an advisory issued by the Department of Health (DOH) urging the public to avoid attending, participating in, and organizing events that draw a huge number of attendees.
On Monday, March 9, President Rodrigo Duterte declared a state of public health emergency.
Proclamation No. 922 ordered all government agencies and local government units (LGUs) to cooperate and mobilize necessary resources to fight COVID-19.
As of March 10, the DOH recorded 35 confirmed cases of COVID -19.IMT
