Iloilo Third District Representative Lorenz Defensor is pushing to declare the Janiuay Public Cemetery as a National Cultural Treasure (NCT).
On Monday, May 6, Defensor announced that his proposed bill seeking the declaration has hurdled the House of Representatives’ first reading.
House Bill 4781 will be known as the Janiuay Public Cemetery Cultural Treasure Act.
The declaration also covers the cemetery’s adjoining structures.
The century-old cemetery is located east from the poblacion bordering between Barangays Aquino-Nobleza and Damu-ong in January town, Iloilo. It was built in 1875 and was inaugurated in 1884.IMT
