Iloilo Governor Arthur Defensor, Jr. welcomed the inclusion of the Bagong Pilipino hymn and pledge in flag-raising ceremonies.

“That is very welcome para sa aton. The administration is trying to rally our people nga may programa ang administration kag may direction,” Defensor said in a media interview.

The governor is currently the regional chairman of the Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP), the political party of Marcos.

Earlier this month, Malacañang issued a memorandum requiring all national government agencies and instrumentalities, including government-owned or -controlled corporations (GOCCs) and educational institutions to sing the hymn and recite the pledge during their weekly flag ceremonies.

This move, according to Malacañang, “aims to instill the principles of Bagong Pilipinas among government workers.”

Bagong Pilipinas is the Marcos Jr. administration’s branding of governance. It is characterized by a “principled, accountable and dependable government reinforced by unified institutions of society, whose common objective is to realize the goals and aspirations of every Filipino.”IMT
