The Iloilo Provincial Government and the Iloilo City Government are joining forces in pursuing legal action against the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP).

In an interview over radio station RMN-Iloilo, Mayor Jerry Treñas disclosed that he talked with Governor Arthur Defensor, Jr. and they agreed to slap NGCP with a class suit.

“Ginhambalan ko siya nga sa pagfile niya sang class suit para sa probinsya against NGCP, maupod na lang kami para isa nalang,” Treñas said.

Last week, the House of Representatives and the Senate held separate hearings on the recent widespread power outage in Western Visayas.

According to Defensor and Treñas, Iloilo suffered nearly P6 billion in economic losses due to the four-day outage.

In a statement, NGCP blamed the outage on the unscheduled maintenance shutdowns of the largest power plants in Panay.IMT
