Governor Arthur Defensor, Jr. wants a strict enforcement of the prohibition and limitations on funeral wake public viewing and gambling, and walking funeral processions in the province of Iloilo.
In a memorandum issued yesterday, April 12, Defensor “earnestly enjoined” the Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO) director, municipal and city chiefs of police, local task forces, and punong barangays to “strictly enforce health protocols and community quarantine measures.”
“The deceased or urn (in case of cremation) shall be buried not later than five days from arrival of the casket/urn at the venue of the wake,” he said.
According to the governor, the wake may be extended, with the permission of the municipal/city mayor, in case of the following pending needs/requirements that cannot be obtained or accomplished within the five-day period: government regulatory requirements, religious rites, and burial site.
All local task forces, through the Patrulya ng Bayan-Barangay Enforcement Team, are tasked to conduct information operations at the barangay level.
They should coordinate with punong barangays to “ensure that the aforesaid prohibition shall be strictly observed and that the funeral wakes will be limited to members of the family and other household residents.”
The province is currently under the least restrictive modified general community quarantine (MGCQ).IMT
