The number of dengue cases in the province of Iloilo went down by 97 percent this year compared to 2019.

From January 1 to October 21, 2020, the Provincial Health Office (PHO) recorded 603 cases, including two deaths.

Last year, a dengue outbreak was declared in the province. The cases reached more than 21 thousand, including 78 deaths.

The town of Estancia accounted for the most number of cases this year at 80, followed by Carles with 71, Balasan, 36; Sara, 32 (including 1 death); Ajuy, 28; Batad, 27; San Dionisio and Calinog, 26 each; and Oton and Dumangas, 22 each.

The other fatality was reported in Guimbal which has 14 dengue cases.

The towns of San Miguel, Zarraga, Mina, and Leganes have one case each, while Santa Barbara, Leon, Igbaras, Alimodian, San Enrique, and Maasin have two cases each. Tubungan registered four cases.

Most of the dengue patients (242) belonged to the 1-10 age group.IMT
